Limerence Editorial- Wedding makeup meets fashion

Weddings and fashion… Who says the two can’t mix?  Limerence is a state of mind which results from a romantic attraction to another person (queue butterflies).  It’s also the name of our latest styled bridal shoot.

I loved working on this shoot because I got to combine elements of fashion hair and makeup styles with this poolside chic wedding.  Skincare and makeup breakdown at the end.

Enjoy!

SKINCARE BREAKDOWN

For the skincare I used the Hylamide Low-Molecular HA serum to hydrate the skin. I skipped moisturiser and followed with the Deciem Pore Delete primer to even out the skin texture.  Hylamide is available from Priceline and online at Adore Beauty.

WEDDING MAKEUP BREAKDOWN

Base- Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Super-Charged Oil-Free Foundation (available from Sephora Australia, $69) for slight coverage with a beautiful glowing finish.

Highlighter- My current favourite, the Marc Jacobs Glow Stick Glistening Illuminator applied with fingers anywhere I wanted to pick up light- the cheekbones, brow bone, cupid’s bow and décolletage (available from Sephora Australia, $38) .

Blush-  Always a fan of cream blush for how it melts seamlessly into the skin, I used Korean brand 3ce Cream Blusher (Sephora Australia, $25) and set it with a light dusting of the Marc Jacobs Air Blush powder (Sephora Australia, $39).

Lipstick- What is already a staple in my own arsenal this festive season, I used the Lip & Cheek Stain by The Body Shop ($24.95). A brilliant formula that never dries and gives the most beautiful finish.  Comes in a variety of shades and you can layer it to achieve the desired intensity.

Mira Mandic: THE HAIR AND MAKEUP by Sonia Allen

In this post I will talk through how I created the hair and makeup for Elsa, our model when I profiled the Mira Mandic for The Bridal Series Sydney.

Originally I was going to do a relaxed braided upstyle for this shoot but when I saw Elsa’s gorgeous hair, it reminded me of Charlotte Gainsbourg’s effortless style and I decided to take this direction instead and incorporate a bit more wave. It was also a good pairing with the makeup, which was bold yet soft.

One of my favourite style icons Charlotte Gainsbourg- the British-French actress and musician who is the daughter of British actress Jane Birkin and French singer Serge Gainsbourg. She always looks polished but not “too done”.

And it translated to this…

To achieve this style, I started by saturing Elsa’s hair with the Protein Spray (to protect against heat and to regulate moisture levels) before working in a small amount of the Sea Salt Spray (for that “undone” texture) followed by the Volume Mousse at the roots (easy application spray mousse that also protects against colour fade without weighing hair down). I blowdried Elsa’s hair with plenty of root lift before tonging from the mid-lengths down.

To finish I backcombed the crown and sprayed it with the Texturising Volume Spray (for volume and long lasting root lift) before brushing out the curls. I used a small amount of the Miracle Fibre cream to provide elastic support and to control the direction of the waves created. I love the finish of this cream, it’s undone glamour at its best!

Throughout the shoot flyways were tamed with a very light misting of the Rejuvenating Oil Mist which I would either spray from at least an arms length away or by spraying it into the palms of my hands and lightly smoothing over.

Elsa had beautiful skin texture but slightly dehydrated skin (lacking moisture but not dry). To tackle this we used the Indeed Labs Facial Powdered Exfoliator followed by the Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask for 15 minutes to allow all of the hyaluronic acid to penetrate the skin and work its magic. I used the exfoliator first to make sure there was no dead skin on the surface that would prevent the mask from working as effectively as possible. I then massaged the Hydraluron Moisture Booster (serum) into the skin and around the eye area and finished with the Fillume Volumising Moisturiser for a plump skin finish.

Elsa is a motorbike-riding leather-wearing rock chick through and through and so I wanted to design a look that complimented her features and attitude. I kept everything minimal and went straight for some dramatic lashes for the rock factor. This look would work on those brides who don’t normally wear much makeup and like a very understated look. You could substitute the full lashes for some more subtle individual ones to suit your taste and eye shape.

Sonia_Allen_Make_Up_The_Blog-Mira-Mandic-67

For Ela’s base, I used the Make Up Forever Radiant Primer in Cool Pink (for yellow fair skin) to colour correct and buffed in the Ultra HD Foundation. This provided a great level of coverage for Elsa’s skin and I only needed the Ultra HD Concealer for under the eyes.

For colour I used the HD Blush in “Rosy Plum and matched this tone on the lips for balance. The Lip Liner Pencil in “Cold Pink was used to contour the lips and a combination of the Rouge Artist Natural in “Iridescent Pink Gold with the Artist Plexi-Gloss in “Nude Coral” was layered over the top.

For the eyes I used the Aqua Cream in “Satin Brown” as an eyeshadow base and set with powder eyeshadows in similar tones. I drew the winged liner with the Graphic Liner Pen and finished with generous lashings of the Aqua Smoky Lash Mascara before fitting the false lashes.

For impact, I used the Ardell Glamour 101 Demi black lashes for Elsa’s lashes (very va-va-1940s!).

I set everything with the Mist & Fix spray to increase the staying power of the makeup while also delivering extra hydration to Elsa’s skin (and meant I didn’t need to powder as much while on set).

Sonia Allen Makeup Lip Scrub

Sumptuous Angelina Jolie lips?  Yes please!

Sonia_Allen_Make_Up_The_Blog-Lip-Scrub-Lips-1

Cracked, dry, sore lips?  No thanks.

Sonia_Allen_Make_Up_The_Blog-Lips-Scrub-KanyeWest

Dry lips are irritating and often we find ourselves desperately lathering on various ointments or balms which don’t actually seem to do much or help the situation.  But fear not, I have a solution that you can:
1) Make yourself
2) Gift to others
3) Eat because it’s delicious

It’s my Sonia Allen Make Up Lip Scrub.  Takes 5 minutes to make, works to exfoliate and hydrate lips and taste-testing is the best bit.

You need the following ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of brown or white sugar or a 50-50 mix of both
  • 1 tsp honey (just enough to make the sugar really stick together)
  • ½ tsp coconut oil
  • ½ drop of vanilla (only for the taste and smell, not an essential)
  • 1 small container
Sonia_Allen_Make_Up_The_Blog-Lip-Scrub-Ingredients

Ingredients- coconut oil, vanilla, honey, brown sugar & white sugar.

Directions

Mix everything together in a bowl.  Seriously that easy!

Then spoon into small jars.

If you’re gifting them, make them look pretty.

Sonia_Allen_Make_Up_The_Blog-Lip-Scrub-4

I gift these to my brides so their lips will be in tip-top shape come wedding day.

Directions for use

Once a week (twice at the max) gently rub the scrub onto your lips to loosen dead skin.  Let it sit for 1 minute and then wipe off with a damp washcloth…. or errrrrrr…. the ingredients are edible and tasty so no one would judge if you “ingested” it off.  Apply a nourishing lip treatment after use like the Hourglass No.28 Lip Treatment Oil or the Essential Kit Multipurpose Wonder Balm.

And there you have it, a simple homemade scrub that is simple to make and enjoyable to use.
